Yoke uses OAuth2 and secure REST APIs to connect to Gitter.
You can track the following measures in your Gitter account:
A machine learning algorithm figures out how often you read your Gitter messages in a chat-room, based on your resets, and warns you if you haven't read a room for longer than usual.
The Yoke Auto-Bookmarks Extension automatically creates a bookmark per Gitter card with the measure and the title of the card, such as "5 messages in foo/bar repo". The bookmark points to the appropriate page in Gitter.
Notifications are disruptive interruptions that make you forget what you should be doing. You can minimize your notifications limiting them to messages that are addressed to you.
Gitter is great of open-source projects with multiple contributors. You can track the open source projects you are interested in as cards on a Yoke board. This way you will stay up to date without disruptive notifications.
